P’nyang Energy Limited (PEL) is an umbrella equity management and investment company dedicated to the P’nyang Gas Project. Operating independently from MRDC, KPHL, and other state-owned entities, PEL focuses on empowering local stakeholders and fostering sustainable development in the region.
The company is 100% locally owned by the Yakamkayak Tribal Clan Companies, which are based in the central P’nyang areas. Its subsidiaries will include a Royalty Trust Subsidiary, a Gas-to-Power Generation Company, Downstream Processing Companies, Shipping and Pipeline Companies, and more. Key stakeholders include the Wokfiyak Clan and other clans from Kayangabip Village, as well as other dominant clans within the P’nyang Gas Field areas, spanning PDL and wellheads located in the Olsobip District. Additional shareholders from Western Province and across Papua New Guinea also contribute to the company’s equity structure.
PEL’s Objectives and Focus
PEL aims to actively participate in the P’nyang Gas Project’s value chain, including early works, construction phases, and ownership of critical infrastructure. This encompasses:
- Partial ownership and operation of a conditioning plant and wellheads.
- Ownership and construction of pipelines.
- Acquisition and operation of LNG carrier ships (tankers).
- Establishment of gas-to-power generation plants.
- Development of downstream hydrocarbon processing facilities.
- Investment in associated infrastructure development.
Beyond the P’nyang Gas Project, PEL seeks to diversify its portfolio by exploring investment opportunities in Tabubil, Kiunga, and other oil, gas, and mining projects across Papua New Guinea.
Incorporated as an investment company under the Companies Act 1997 through the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA), PEL was officially registered on February 5, 2023, with registration number 1-21136 and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) 501270163.
